How Does One Become a Chemist?

First and foremost, as with ANY career decision, what you need to decide above all else is whether you have the interest and skills and abilities to be a chemist. Do you enjoy the analytical and laboratory aspects of chemistry? Would you want to work in industry, government, or education? How many chemistry courses have you taken? Have you talked with any chemists about career paths?

According to the American Chemical Society (ACS), most chemists are employed in one of four areas: industry (60%), academia (24%), government (9%), or non-traditional (7%).

While a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in some area of chemistry (organic, polymer, macromolecular, medicinal, etc.) is required for the most basic lab jobs, many of the better career tracks require an advanced degree, including a doctoral degree in chemistry. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics projects most of the growth in this field to come from pharmaceutical companies and in research and testing firms.

Is the career financially viable? Even though I cringe at that question, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that as of July 2009, the latest date for which figures are available, beginning salary offers chemists with a bachelor’s degree averaged $39,897.

However, industrialization and technological advancement has adversely affected our environment and lifestyles that has manifested in new types of diseases and ailments, which poses a challenge to the medical fraternity.

The demand for medical professionals for treatment as well as research work is ever increasing both within India and abroad. The ongoing liberalization of economy is expected to bring in better opportunities for medical professionals in terms of remuneration, research and working facilities.

I want to know some statistics that will reveal that many employers are actually interested in interview candidates who come to the interview with a career portfolio. I am a business technology teacher at the secondary level, and I teach my students job readiness skills. We will be creating career portfolios in all of the classes I teach this fall. I would like the other teachers to do this as well. I am the business department chair, and I want to provide some information that explains how powerful a tool the career portfolio really is.

I have visited lots of sites but I do not see info that tells me which businesses in particular are using or want their applicants to come with a career portfolio. Can you help me, help my students and other educators at the secondary level?

Unfortunately, I cannot give you the statistics on the number of employers who require or are interested in career portfolios. I can, however, state that I am a big proponent of career portfolios because they are just another selling tool in the job-seeker’s career toolbox. A resume states what someone has accomplished, but a portfolio can actually show it! There is nothing more powerful, in my mind, than pulling out a hefty portfolio of your work and placing it on the interviewer’s desk with a resounding “thump.”

And while career portfolios have traditionally been used by job-seekers in the arts, more and more job-seekers across all disciplines are using them as a way to develop a career focus, document experiences and accomplishments, and as an aid for prepping for job interviews.

In fact, one of my colleagues actually supports the development of two portfolios, an external portfolio used for job-hunting purposes and an internal one, used for career development.

All businesses ideally want job-seekers with experience, and a portfolio is the tool to document that experience. Things that can be included in a career portfolio include:

Difference between Deemed University and Open University

The University Grants Commission grants the powers to the Deemed University. Deemed University
Various Universities are given Deemed University status to recognize them for the excellence in education. An aspirant can either pursue regular classes or distance education classes within a Deemed University. However, they have to attend all the classes regularly. Otherwise, they won’t be allowed to attend the final examinations. The institutes that come under the Deemed Universities have the entire power to set the course work and the syllabi of the various courses offered within the institute. In addition, they may have their own guidelines for providing admissions, fees and instructions to aspirants. Difference between Private & deemed Universities

The main area of differences between a deemed university and a private University is in the norms that is required to be followed. The private Universities have to follow a lot of norms and regulations which the Deemed universities don’t.
The main difference between a private and a deemed university is that, a deemed university is more free and flexible as compared to the Private Universities. A deemed university is a college or institution with a name of the university. Under private university, many institutes and colleges can fall, however under deemed universities, there is a single college or institution only.

I had the same question when I was a 12th class student. I know most of you don’t know the difference and never ever really cared to search it on net. Ok so here goes the difference:
B.Tech. is more of a practical based program while B.E. emphasizes on theoretical details. In India no one really cares whether you are B.Tech. or B.E. - because in either case you are equally unaware of what you are doing (practicals) or studying (theory). Well that was a joke or was it really?

Difference between Pathology and Pathophysiology

Pathology is the study of diseased organs, bodily fluids, tissues etc. It also deals with the scientific study of the disease processes. Pathophysiology includes the study of biological and physical diseases as well as the physiological disturbance caused due to various diseases.

Central Board For Workers Education was started in the year 1958 as an autonomous body. The board was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. The board performs all its functions under the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India. The board conducts various training programmes at various levels for achieiving its objectives. Educating rural workers in protecting and promoting their social interests, is one of the prime objective of the board. Central Board For Workers Education invites applications from eligible and qualified candidates on the vacant position of Education Officers. All interested candidates must fulfill the eligibility conditions set for the specified position of Education Officers in Central Board For Workers Education. Applications recieved from uneligible candidates will not be considered by the board under any circumstances.
Eligibility:
General candidates are required to have age less than the prescribed maximum age limit i.e. 28 years as on 1 November 2011. SC/ST categories candidates are required to have age less than 33 years.
